The Rockwood Residents’ Foundation
Philanthropy is a core part of life at a Rockwood community. In 1990, a group of residents formed the Rockwood Residents’ Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that raises funds to benefit the lives of Rockwood residents and employees in a variety of ways. For example, no resident has ever been asked to leave a Rockwood due to an inability to pay (such as when someone outlives their finances). The Foundation also supports important employee education, community improvement programs, and so much more.
The Foundation serves residents and employees in a variety of ways. For example, no resident has ever been asked to leave a Rockwood Retirement community due to an inability to pay through no fault of their own (such as when someone outlives their finances). The Foundation also supports important employee education efforts and community improvement programs, and so much more. Here is a sampling of the types of programs championed by the Rockwood Residents’ Foundation.
Foundation contributions at South Hill
Community Benefit
Our Community Benefit Fund directly supports project improvements to or new features at Rockwood South Hill. In recent years, this has included funding extraordinary amenities for the team member break room, the Timeless Barber and Beauty Salon, a full-scale golf simulator, and more. The fund also allowed us to build a Foundation Hospice Suite to serve residents and families in need of hospice services. The Suite is thoughtfully designed to give residents and families private space to enjoy time together, and includes a bed for the resident, a kitchen area, an accessible bathroom, and an adjoining room with a sleeper couch, TV and more for family members to stay in.
“The golf simulator is great! It keeps your swing going through the winter and makes a big difference when you get on the course in the spring.”

Enhancing the Employee Experience
The foundation focuses on employees by providing financial assistance in times of need, as well as supporting staff development through educational scholarships to team members and their children. Recent scholarship awards have benefitted employees in a range of positions at South Hill, including Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), Executive Chef, Physical Therapy, and more. The fund also supports employees by awarding scholarships to children pursuing a range of educational programs including journalism, business, marketing, sociology, physical therapy, and more.
